EnterLight offers support to house hunters

Perhaps you have always dreamed of buying a house, but you have no idea how to begin, or what programs are available to help. Or perhaps you are tired of the place where you are renting, but you have encountered discrimination when you’ve tried to find a better place.

Good news! The non-profit organization Columbia EnterLight Ministries Community Development Corp. can help you.

EnterLight can give you bilingual advice to secure a home loan to meet your needs. Micky Marrero, a Puerto Rican loan officer, will review your credit report, and help you with the process of improving your credit report, if neccessary.

EnterLight was founded by the Rev. William Young in June 1999. The Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded EnterLight a Fair Housing Education and Outreach grant to conduct fair housing seminars. In addition to seminars, EnterLight also has office hours and offers services on a daily basis from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. The service offered is free, confidential and complete.

EnterLight wants to educate the Hispanic community about their rights under the 1998 Fair Housing Act. The federal housing law prohibits discrimination in housing because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status or handicap.

“We need you to fight for your rights. There is nothing that legally can keep you from finding a house,” said Young.

EnterLight is located at 605 N. Providence Rd. The organization’s phone number is (573) 442-5951.
